Sunday Dharma School

The OCBC Dharma School explains the teachings of the Buddha to students pre-k through high school and helps them have a better understanding of Shin Buddhism. Our curriculum consists of Buddhist Holidays, Buddhist Etiquette, the Life of the Buddha, the Life of Shinran Shonin, and many other Buddhist-related topics. Many of our temple members volunteer to teach classes in English after Sunday Service. Learn about the Buddha with us!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dharma School, who attends, when, where and what time?

Dharma School class is for students to learn about Buddhism and foster relationships among peers. Classes are after the 10am Family Service for students ages 3 (by September 1 and potty-trained) through high school and dismisses at 11:30am. The OCBC website lists Family Service and those are the days there is Dharma School class. Classes are held in the Multi Purpose Building (“MPB”), except Preschool and Kindergarten which are held in the classrooms adjacent to the Hondo. We encourage students to sit with their class in the Hondo (Main Hall).

‍ ‍Does the family need to be OCBC members for students to attend Dharma School?

No. You are welcome to become members at any time, but it is not mandatory for students to be able to attend.
